Thassos underwater
by Lubomir Stefanoff on Aug.26, 2009, under Freediving
For those of you who wondered why I and other friends go often for freediving in Thassos – check out this video from Ivan Totev (fellow [scuba]diver). Well, it’s not just about the easily accessible depths and being only 350 km from Sofia…
Any clues what’s that creature at 6:40-8:16?

Simply great movie ! I only dived once (PADI intro) with Mr. Vasiliadis from Potos – Thassos. It was fantastic, but unfortunately I live further away and I won't be diving any time soon.
Nevertheless, aren't there any other parts of the Mediterranean with more wildlife and clearer water ?

As far as I know the Mediterranean was abundant with life some 50 years ago, but… Still there is a lot to be seen (and photographed) from the marine life.
I'd been to Rhodes island and the water was clearer and I spotted more creatures compared to Thassos waters.
I've heard that Karpathos was a great place for spearfishing and UW photography because of the clear water and not being a popular tourist destination…

Muchas gracias, Diana
I wonder why they call them 'cows' (personally, I don't see any resemblance of a [land] cow)…

oh, lubo, pardon me, it is a black sea hare. the name comes from the color, not from the black sea ;]
the sea cow is about 200kg, so maybe thats the reason why. though i havent googled that, just used the local sources ;]
good luck in greece!
